Curiosities related to censorship, it turns out, are not alien to other states.
The premiere of the cult series ‘The Magnificent Century’ could very well not have taken place by today’s standards. And certainly not because someone would be too lazy to watch 128 thousand two-hour episodes of the series. Sultan Suleiman was to blame.
Well, not quite like that, we clicked you for the bait, of course. In fact, it turned out this: censorship is alien not only to Mother Russia, but also to the masses of civilized countries. And the same censorship in Turkey saw in the series, or rather in the main character, something unacceptable, impossible. Obviously!
The rulers were furious with Suleiman. Because of his licentious behavior, there were even rallies organized in the country against the screening of the premiere episodes. And all because it turns out that it is not appropriate for the sultan of the Ottoman Empire to behave like this.
They say that Suleiman indulged in his concubines and abused alcoholic beverages, which are prohibited in the country even now, let alone in those days of light. That is why the Turkish authorities were categorically against showing “The Magnificent Century” to viewers.

However, someone successfully made a fuss and everything worked out. And for good reason. The series has become a symbol of the time, a symbol of Turkey, and has probably been watched 24 times in Russia by female viewers of all faiths and ages. So strict adherence to the canons is not always beneficial.
By the way, none of the fans noted the Sultan’s licentiousness in the reviews. Concubines – yes, intimates – yes. But Suleiman, in terms of his romantic reputation, turned out to be sinless – do not undermine.
