Not everyone knows that Quentin Tarantino hid a joke in the credits of Pulp Fiction. Moreover, it will not be so obvious to Russian-speaking viewers. We will tell you where to look for it and what it means.
What are we actually talking about?
As the credits begin to show the names of the actors and their roles, Robert Root, who played the manager of the restaurant Pumpkin and Bunny stormed into, appears with the note “Coffee Shop.” While the rest of the actors seem to be perfectly happy in their roles. This is what matters.
In this scene in the original there is a small dialogue, in which the character Ruth says the following sentence:
I’m not a hero. I’m just a coffee shop…
Not translated into Russian, this means: “I’m not a hero at all. I’m just a manager.” But in the original, the man doesn’t have time to finish the sentence. That is, in theory, in Russian it should sound like: “I’m just management…”. And since in English the sentence ends with the phrase coffeeshop (which means “coffee shop”), the hero’s comment is translated as follows: “I’m not a hero. I’m just a coffee shop.”
Tarantino decided to make fun of this moment and wrote it in the credits. This is not a typo at all, but just a joke from the creators.
