Even though the finale of the debut episode of the second season of ‘House of the Dragon’ disappointed the audience, what came before it can only be praised. The audience is carefully guided towards an inevitable war, after which Westeros will never be the same.
As teased in the trailers, the Game of Thrones spin-off meets us from the first minutes with the chilling and captivating landscapes of the endless north. Jakeris, the eldest son of Queen Rhaenyra, flies to the Wall in search of support, hoping to convince Lord Stark to join the impending civil war.
It was during the negotiations that Targaryen received terrible news about the death of his younger brother Luceris, who was accidentally killed by Aemond.
“War is now inevitable,” says one of the Red Castle guards in the middle of the episode, and his accuracy will only be emphasized by later events.
Rhaenyra finds her son’s remains and falls into mourning. Damon is dissatisfied with this and therefore has to think about how he can take revenge himself. Rhaenys miraculously stops the queen’s husband from his ill-advised plan to “break into King’s Landing and join Vhagar in killing Aemond.”
By the way, in the port itself, not everything goes well, thank God – with every minute of screen time, the number of Alicent’s followers melts before our eyes, and she herself tries to avoid the war, sending letters to Rhaenyra trying to apologize. Only now does Aegon II seem to turn into Joffrey, becoming a cruel and insane ruler, and therefore demands to finish his enemies with dragon fire.
And while the Greens argue and try to figure out what to do next, the Blacks have already decided everything. The ending of the series, in which one of Aemond’s sons dies, was openly controversial, but anyone who hasn’t read the books will probably remember it for a long time.
