Australian weather: Karl Stefanovic teases woman in bikini swimming in ocean

Karl Stefanovic made fun of a young woman who undressed in a bikini to dive into the ocean on Wednesday as temperatures dropped in Southern and Eastern Australia.

The 47-year-old host couldn’t help commenting on the woman’s skimpy swimsuit as furry reporter Christine Ahern ran into the icy water as she made a lively crossing from the beach.

After Ms. Ahern briefed the audience on the pole blast, Stefanovic pretended to be in pain when she joked that the swimmer “couldn’t get a decent swimsuit”.

‘This poor young lady cannot afford such complete costumes. It’s very sad, isn’t it? said Stefanovic.

Her host, Allison Langdon, scolded her for joking at her expense.

“Oh, relax!” He added that the woman was “brave” to jump surfing.

Stefanovic replied:[She] He didn’t have enough money to pay the case…’

Langdon wasn’t impressed, and telling him the “dad joke” about the woman’s bikini wasn’t all that funny.

When they finished the episode, Stefanovic said he could make a more “controversial” joke, but chose not to.

Winter for the country officially kicked off Wednesday with snowfall near both Sydney and Melbourne.

The cold air caused an icy eruption that engulfed much of Australia and brought cold temperatures, snow and sharp winds.

Heavy snowfall was seen in the Victorian Alps region west of Sydney and the Central Tablelands of New South Wales.

Melbourne, which is expected to hit 12°C on Wednesday, recorded a low of 4.4°C at Melbourne airport just after midnight, while Ferny Creek in the Dandenong Ranges dropped to 1.8°C.

NSW hasn’t done better.

While temperatures in the Sydney Basin drop from 6°C to 15°C, winds can reach 90km/h on Wednesday.

There are also icy conditions in western Sydney, where Liverpool, Richmond and Campbelltown will face high temperatures of 14°C.

On Tuesday, when we said goodbye to autumn, temperatures in the south-east of the country fell three to six degrees below the May average.

But meteorologist Helen Reid of the Bureau of Meteorology says it’s normal for temperatures to drop at this time of year.

“We always see good snowfall in NSW and Victoria at the end of May, and when ski season starts in June, all the snow is gone,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“So there are pretty regular cold spells at the end of May.”
