You’ll Break Your Eyes: 11 Optical Illusions That Will Deceive Everyone

Look at something that cannot exist in reality.

It seems that optical illusions are a form of entertainment that exclusively captivated Internet users in the mid-2000s. Whatever it is! People were noticing, drawing and inventing them long before the first computers appeared, requiring only brushes, rulers or a cylindrical mirror.

This collection contains 11 optical illusions from different periods that still baffle and break the brain:

One of them was spotted by passerby Steve Simpson on the wall of a café in Bristol. The wall was painted with diagonal lines, which actually ran parallel to each other. A little trick and the difference in the functioning of neurons in the retina and visual cortex create a memorable effect, described in scientific works more than 100 years ago.

Even more interesting is the “Rubik’s Cube” illusion. To see the cube itself, you need a cylindrical mirror, in the reflection of which the blurry figure will gather into a familiar toy. Only in this way are unrecognizable distorted images transformed and given meaning. To the surprise of many, this technique was not invented in the 21st century, but during the Renaissance.

Penrose’s “Impossible Triangle”, which attracts the attention of every viewer, cannot exist in reality, because it contradicts the rules of Euclidean geometry. The illusion gives the impression that the left and right sides of the triangle are in the same plane, but in reality this figure has no points of contact.
