Emma Stone talks about the long-awaited sequel to her 2021 hit Cruella and confirms it’s still happening.
The 35-year-old actress received widespread praise for her portrayal of “101 Dalmatians” villain Cruella de Vil in the 2021 prequel Cruella.
Just a month after it hit the spotlight, Disney officially confirmed that a sequel was in the works, and Stone completed her contract to return two months later.
It grossed $235.5 million worldwide, with an estimated budget of $100 million for a summer 2021 release.
When asked, Stone appeared on the red carpet at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on Thursday diversity for an update on what’s coming next.

When asked when filming would begin on the sequel, Stone said: “Just tell me. Hopefully it’s sooner rather than later.’
Stone was asked if she had seen a script for the sequel yet, and she admitted that it is “in the works, so to speak.”
“Yeah, we’ll see what happens,” she said when asked, “How bad do you want to see it again?”
‘It’s impressive. She is wonderful. So yeah, we’ll see. It’s a very … it’s a work in progress,” Stone admitted.
Both Cruella director Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) and screenwriter Tony McNamara (“Poor Things”) is expected to return for the sequel, but there has been little movement on the project since then
Disney has not yet set a release date for Cruella 2 or announced a production schedule.
Stone attended the Palm Springs International Film Festival and received the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance in Poor Things.
She said her character Bella Baxter was a character she had never read on the page before and gave writer-director Yorgos Lanthimos a shout-out on stage.

Stone described Bella as “a woman immune to external expectations and impervious to judgment and shame.”
“Playing Bella was challenging because I had to unlearn those aspects of myself, and she was also an absolute joy to play,” she said.
“Making this film was a highlight of my life, thanks in large part to a true creative soulmate,” she said, referring to Lanthimos.
She previously starred in Lanthimos’ last film, 2018’s The Favourite, alongside his 30-minute short Bleat.
