Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars won’t have to think about crossing over at the Golden Globes next month.
Less than 100 hours before nominations on January 7e 81St The Golden Globes awards will be announced Monday morning, UNITE HERE Local 11 and the Beverly Hilton have reached a tentative agreement. “Together, the legendary Beverly Hilton and its partners are setting the stage for awards season, and we’re excited to do it again,” the hotel and local residents said in a joint statement Friday night.
Like many LA hotel workers, the hundreds of housekeepers, cooks, dishwashers, waiters and receptionists at the iconic Tinseltown location went on strike on July 4.e Public holidays.
“Hotel workers at the Beverly Hilton can’t wait to kick off awards season now that Hollywood is back in full swing because they have a living wage contract,” Kurt Petersen, co-president of UNITE HERE Local 11, told Deadline tonight . “The Beverly Hilton is a leader in Beverly Hills, and we call on Fairmont Century Plaza and Beverly Wilshire to quickly follow suit.”
The Beverly Hilton is the first hotel in the luxury jurisdiction to negotiate an agreement with hotel employees that includes major salary increases, self-proclaimed historic language for equal justice, new health care packages and pension increases. The Beverly Hilton, owned since 2003 by Beny Alagem, chief executive of Alagem Capital Group, and a favorite of presidents and celebrities, risked major embarrassment for itself and the new-look Globes when strikes shut down the gilded nominees and celebrities next month invaded and welcomed other guests.
After years of scandal and controversy and a move from NBC to CBS, the revived Globes sought to be the first major awards show to get its adrenaline pumping and truly red carpet-worthy following the end of the bitter WGA and SAG- AFTRA strikes rolled out. .
After the long months of now-resolved writers’ and actors’ strikes, in which hotel workers were allies at many rallies and faced a backlash from the guilds, a conflict at the Dick Clark production “Globes” had the potential to spark labor strife in Hollywood. – Blow. . Many members of the WGA and Actors Guild have expressed solidarity with UNITE HERE Local 11 and plan to hold banners with them on January 9 if an agreement is not reached by then.
Now that an agreement has been reached, it’s back to the drunken Globes as usual.
In addition to the Globes, other awards shows will be held at the Beverly Hilton in the coming months, including the 2023 HRTS Foundation Gala (Dev 14), the rescheduled American Cinematheque Awards Tribute To Helen Mirren (February 15), the Make-Up Artists and Hairstylists Guild Awards (February 18) and ICG Publicists Awards (March 8).
