Jenna Ortega will reportedly not return for the seventh installment of the Scream franchise.
Deadline reported that Ortega’s departure from the Scream film had already been negotiated before the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The outlet reports that the script for the sequel is not yet finished and that Jenna will travel to Ireland in April to film the second season of the Netflix series on Wednesday. This shoot is expected to take place in the summer.
She also stars in Beetlejuice 2, which is coming to an end shortly after filming was halted due to the attacks in Hollywood.
Deadline reports that her departure has nothing to do with the recent firing of co-star Melissa Barrera over reports about the war between Israel and Hamas. Jenna and Melissa played sisters Tara and Sam Carpenter in the horror series.

The Hollywood Reporter claims Jenna told Spyglass, the studio behind Scream VII, a few months ago that she has no plans to return to the franchise.
Melissa was fired from the upcoming Scream VII after sharing a series of pro-Palestinian posts on her social media accounts.
The 33-year-old actress, who starred in the horror franchise’s last two films and was set to direct the next, was fired by production company Spyglass after it was said she had “crossed the line into hate speech”.
The Mexican star posted a series of comments on her Instagram account amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, including one in which she said Gaza was being “treated like a concentration camp,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.
In the same post, she asked if “people haven’t learned from our history” and said: “It’s genocide. It’s ethnic cleansing.”
The actress, who played Sam Carpenter in the franchise, called Israel a “colonized” country and posted anti-Semitic content about Jewish people controlling the media.
One message reads: “Western media only shows it.” [Israeli] Page. “Why are they doing this? I’ll leave it to you to find out for yourself.”
A spokesperson for Spyglass issued a statement to Variety explaining why Barerra was cut from the film due to her comments.
The “Vikyker” position is clear: “We do not tolerate anti-Semitism or incitement to hatred in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, distortions of the Holocaust or anything that blatantly crosses the line of hate speech.” a spokesperson said.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, in another post on Instagram Stories, Barrera said that “Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp.”
On Monday, Barrera posted a series of war-related clips to her Instagram stories, including footage of American-Israeli forces in Gaza; Ceasefire Protests in Philadelphia; and Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib called for an immediate ceasefire.
Barrera played key roles in both hit horror films, as 2022’s Scream grossed $137.7 million worldwide, while Scream V, which opened in theaters last March, earned a total of $168.9 million.
Director Christopher Landon, who has signed on to direct the upcoming film, distances himself from the decision, saying, “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. It wasn’t my decision.’
Considered a rising star in Hollywood, Barerra has yet to comment on the decision, but posted a message on her Instagram saying, “Ultimately, I’d rather be shut out for who I’m implying” than those those who are included become those who I exclude. .”

The film’s development was “slow against the backdrop of the actors’ and writers’ strikes,” the newspaper said.
The issue has affected the employment of others in show business, as Variety reported that Tom Cruise intervened in a situation with his agent Maha Dakhil at CAA.
Dakhil, an agent for the Hollywood conglomerate, was fired from her position on the board of the agency’s film division after posting about the war: “What could be more heartbreaking than seeing a genocide?” I am witness to the denial that Genocide took place.”
Cruise, 61, “took the rare step of personally showing support for his embattled agent” at the CAA offices in Los Angeles on Nov. 15, an insider told the outlet.
Sources told the outlet that “a group of CAA assistants threatened to quit the company” because 48-year-old Dakhil was “hired by the management” but failed to do so; Other agents upset by Dakhil’s posts were left “disillusioned” after she was allowed to keep her position as an agent in the company.
DailyMail.com has contacted representatives of Barerra and Spyglass for further comment on the story.
