The severe curse that only TWO competitors managed to escape as they prepared for Blackpool Week

As the Strictly stars prepare to perform at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom on Saturday, it looks like there’s a Strictly curse the contestants are hoping to avoid.

Unlike the infamous curse that makes couples fall in love, this new curse affects the scoreboard on the show’s legendary night.

Based on the results so far, whoever tops Blackpool’s table is unlikely to win the Glitterball trophy in the final of the show.

In 19 years, in the history of Strictly Come Dancing, only two dancers have won the show after emerging victorious.

You are Jill Halfpenny in 2004 and Kelvin Fletcher in 2019.

As the competition heats up, bookmaker William Hill predicts Layton Williams will hit his first perfect 40 on Saturday night, with Craig Revel Horwood finally taking out his ’10’ row.

A spokesman for William Hill, Lee Phelps, said: “Despite the excitement surrounding Layton’s potential success in the standings, it is important to note that only two of the top 19 scorers in the Blackpool Special Trials achieved series final victory.

“Currently the Blackpool Curse is the favorite to shine this weekend and remains an unwanted dance partner for Layton as the business end of the show approaches.”

“Indeed our overall winner markets seem to reflect this sentiment, with Ellie Leach our 1/4 favorite to win series 21 of the popular BBC show and Layton just 8/1 to win the ultimate prize.”

It seems that the best place in the Blackpool standings will be third or fourth place.

Strictly Champions TV presenter Chris Hollins (2009), actress Kara Tointon (2010) and Abbey Clancy (2013) all came third in the celebrity ballroom.

The singer is now The Wanted Jay McGuiness, who lifted the trophy in 2015, and Scottish actor Joe McFadden, who won two years later, only finished fourth on the night.

Last year’s winner, TV wildlife expert Hamza Yassin, came second behind singer Fleur East, showing once again that Blackpool is not alone.
