The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is taking seriously the new eligibility requirements for the Best Picture Award. You have until Wednesday 15 November to comply.
This date is the deadline for submitting Oscar Entry Forms (OSF) in the general submission categories and Representation and Inclusion Standards Entry (RAISE) forms for Best Picture selection for the 96th Academy Awards. After the deadline, AMPAS will no longer accept required forms.
In order for a film to be considered for the 96th Academy Awards, the film’s distributor or producer must upload a scanned, signed copy of the OSF and a legal invoice (full screen credits) via the AMPAS submission website. The deadline for submission is November 15th at 5:00 PM PT.
Although that date is the deadline for submitting credits, feature films have until December 31 to open in a commercial theater in one of six eligible US metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; New York City [five boroughs]; the Bay Zone [counties of San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, San Mateo and Contra Costa]; Chicago [Cook County, IL]; Miami [Miami-Dade County, FL]; and Atlanta [Fulton County, GA] and begin a minimum streak of seven consecutive days during which shows must occur at least three times a day, with at least one show starting between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM daily, to be eligible for the 2023 Awards.
Submission of the required confidential Academy Inclusion Standards form and compliance with two of the four standards (designed to ensure some diversity in the creation of the films eligible for Best Picture competition) are also required to be considered in the “Best Picture” category for the 96th Academy Awards. A film’s distributor or producer will have the option to decline to present the award for Best Picture, but will still be eligible to do so in other categories where the new rules do not apply. The deadline for this entry is also November 15th at 5pm PT.
The RAISE platform and OSFs can be accessed online. For more information on RAISE eligibility and Best Picture, please email [email protected].
Complete rules for the 96th Academy Awards can be found here.
Additionally, December 19, 2023 is the last day for Academy Screening Room members to upload a film to the For Your Consideration section of the streaming site. Special rules and qualification criteria apply to submissions in the categories of animated film, documentary film, international feature film and short film; these deadlines have already expired.
Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. The Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood and will be broadcast live on ABC.
