Matt Rife Recalls His Worst Sports Bar Show During the 2012 NBA Playoffs (Exclusive)

Every comedian has experienced a bad stand-up show, including Matt Rife. The 28-year-old recalled which of his past performances still haunt him today, during an exclusive video interview with Hollywood life.

“It was the seventh game of the 2012 NBA playoffs. LeBron [James] “I was in Miami,” Matt explained. “I was performing at a sports bar outside of Atlanta, Georgia, and it was packed, packed with people watching the game.”

OH Brooklyn nine nine The actor noted that he was supposed to give a 20-minute presentation, but “he worked through 20 minutes of material in about four minutes.”

“They left the televisions on. Everyone is just watching [the game]”Matt continued. “I’m in the middle of a joke and people [are] I was just diving into nachos, man. It was the worst moment of my entire life. “I’ve never felt so invisible.”

Since then, however, Matt’s success has only grown as he prepares for the Nov. 15 premiere of his comedy special on Netflix. Natural selection. While speaking with Hollywood Life, the Columbus, Ohio, native described the process of creating jokes, which can sometimes be the “scariest part.”

“You have to show all these new lines, which you know are usually just notes that you wrote [when] you’re too high [sic]” Matt said. “You’re like, ‘This is the funniest shit ever.’ Then the next day you read it and think, ‘I’m definitely going to prison.'”

However, Matt insisted that he is “enjoying the process of starting all over again and developing a new program” because “that’s where the work really comes in.”
