Southern Charm star Olivia Flowers reveals her brother Conner died of an accidental fentanyl overdose – nine months after his tragic death at the age of 32

Southern Charm star Olivia Flowers has revealed the cause of her brother Conner’s death following his tragic death at the age of 32.

A medical examiner ruled that Conner died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl, Olivia revealed during an interview with People.

Flowers described how her brother developed an addiction to prescription medications after turning to these drugs to relieve the symptoms of Lyme disease.

“My brother hated talking about his illness,” she told the publication. “So many people, even in his immediate circle, didn’t know about his Lyme disease.” So when you hear that he died of a fentanyl overdose, you’ll immediately assume he was partying. Conner wasn’t like that. It was a setback. It was his way of surviving.”

Conner’s symptoms of Lyme disease began to manifest when he was just 15 years old. However, he was misdiagnosed and instead prescribed painkillers for his chronic pain and medication to treat the accompanying anxiety.

“At a young age he began to rely on these prescription drugs to feel normal. And we as a family began to see the toll it was taking on his body,” Olivia described.

Unfortunately, the pain he suffered prevented him from playing golf, a sport he loved and excelled at. Conner went to college on a golf scholarship and even received state honors.

However, the symptoms forced him to stop participating in regular tournaments and eventually quit altogether.

“It just changed him,” Olivia said. “The symptoms he experienced from Lyme disease were debilitating.”

Conner, a functional medicine doctor, was referred eight years after his health problems and finally began to address the cause of his problems rather than finding superficial temporary solutions.

By this time, however, Conner had become dependent on the opioids and Xanax he was taking to treat his pain, and his internal health was suffering from Lyme disease.

“Now, not only was he being treated for Lyme disease, but he was also in rehab trying off these medications,” she said.

“No one wanted to be better than Conner,” Olivia said. “It was just a difficult time. We are very, very close as a family. We were all very committed and supported him. But for years he was in and out of rehab and tried so hard to come out the other side.”

Olivia also said that her brother doesn’t deny it. “He always insisted he had a problem,” she said. “It was never difficult to get him into rehab; Every time my parents asked him for help, it was because they asked for it. He wanted to stop it.’

Olivia fondly remembered how well he had it during the winter of 2021-2022. At the time, he was living at a wellness center in Arizona to focus on treating his Lyme disease and addiction.

“He was in the best shape I’ve seen him in years,” she said. “We all went up to spend Christmas with him and he was completely clean.” He looked and felt just fine.

“My brother, he had so much zest for life and entrepreneurial spirit.” He loved to work. He had big dreams that he wanted to achieve. And he talked about his plans to move to Dallas, Texas, where he already had a job.”

Olivia learned her brother died shortly after she spoke to him on the phone. They planned to have dinner together at her family’s home on the Isle of Palms, but when she arrived, no one seemed to be home and she ended up leaving.

“It was just so crazy,” she said. “We spoke on the phone less than an hour before. And then… he left.’

She also remembered how loved her brother was by everyone. Conner tragically passed away on January 30, 2023.

“My brother was very lively and liked to bring people together; He literally made friends everywhere we went. Even when we went on vacation, we went to the hotel lobby for breakfast and he knew everyone by name. He was a beautiful 6-foot-2 guy with the biggest heart.”

The death also has an impact on the cast of Southern Charm – in a recent episode, the cast learned of Conner’s death and supported Olivia.
