Zoe Ball has discussed her early dates with ex-husband DJ Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, saying: “The 90s were mostly about drinking.”

The 52-year-old TV host married Norman in 1999 and confessed that even though they went to fancy restaurants, he often skipped dinner in favor of his alcoholic drink, a Belarusian cocktail.

Speaking on Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, she said: “I mean, Norman didn’t eat much to be honest, his food was Belarusian to be honest.”

“I think the 1990s was mostly drinking and not eating much,” she said – the couple are now sober.

Former Ladette Zoe and Norman, 60, split in 2016, but Zoe confirmed they are still good friends when she called off their somewhat chaotic first date.

“I mean, we’re good friends, it’s great. On our first date we had crab, like crab cooked in a smooth sauce.

“Don’t eat crabs on your first date. Pieces fly everywhere.”

They may not have appreciated it in their wild days, but Zoe revealed that the DJ now decides his tour dates based on the restaurants he wants to go to.

She said: “When you’re on tour or as a musician, you’re taken to the best places in the world and the best restaurants and it’s been so wild and sometimes I think, ‘God, did we really appreciate that?’ ”

“He does this thing now where he himself tells you where he’s going on tour and chooses places because of the restaurants you can go to and so on.”

The star also told of her bizarre encounter with George Michael when she was 14 and he drove past her house while she was picking grass for her guinea pig.

She said:This is such a strange story. I went outside my house to pick grass for the guinea pig. Strange, using a miniature wheelbarrow because the guinea pig was eating the grass in the yard.

“And who should sit opposite me on the same summit?” George Michael, in a convertible sports car.

“I was about fourteen and I just stood there with my little green wheelbarrow in my tracksuit and said, ‘I love you. And then he drove away and that was the only time I saw George Michael picking grass for my guinea pig.’

Zoe recently admitted she put her holidays behind her and spent quiet evenings at home watching Gardners’ World after getting over her battle with alcohol.

She made headlines in the 90s for her wild antics and was branded a “Ladette” along with other female celebrities including Sara Cox, 48.

She told The Mirror that she now only goes out to parties briefly before going home to put her feet up.

“I’m making the French exit now.” I leave early. Everyone sees you and you see your friends. Then I go “Woohoo” and they never remember that you haven’t been there for a while.

Adds: “I’m back in bed with some crumpets watching Gardeners’ World at 10 at night.”
