Katharine McPhee says good communication was the key to her marriage to David Foster.
The 39-year-old singer told E! News became known on Monday that “therapy” and “a good therapist” were decisive in their four-year marriage, where they are parents to the two-year-old boy Rennie.
The former “American Idol” contestant said a third party could also be helpful in her marriage to the Grammy-winning producer.
“Or just having someone in your life or another couple in your life to help you when there are disagreements or disagreements,” says McPhee, who tied the knot with Foster in June 2019. “I really feel you can talk through almost anything, but you have to have the language and vocabulary to do it.”
“So it takes practice, confidence and skills to facilitate these conversations.”

McPhee, who first met Foster in 2006 when he was a mentor on the Fox singing competition before they met again years later, said music was a crucial element in their relationship since they met “in a taping studio” and “in a work environment”. ‘
She said: “That’s where we really know each other best, knowing the ease and grandeur and the way he works and always brings out the best in people.”
She said her young son was “talking like crazy” and playing with a child’s drum set.
“I’d say drumming has been a running theme in his life since he was 14 months old, but he’s reached a new level in his drumming that’s really impressive,” McPhee said. “People are more impressed than I think.
“We say, ‘Oh yeah, he really loves it. It is good. We don’t know if it will be real.’ But now I’m like, “Hmmm, this could be real.”
McPhee said that she and Foster “didn’t push the kid into music.”
“I would love for him to follow in his father’s footsteps and become very knowledgeable about all kinds of musical instruments,” she said. “Obviously he’s two and a half… we just let him do his thing.
“But I want him to be good with all the instruments, just like his dad. I think he’s on his way, that’s for sure.”

Foster said last month that McPhee was “reacting emotionally” to the tragic death of babysitter Yadira Calito in a car accident in August.
“It’s been hard for her,” Foster said of his wife in a joint interview with Entertainment Tonight on Sept. 14.
Foster said “things were difficult for McPhee after Calito’s death,” when McPhee canceled her music tour early on Aug. 11, citing a “terrible tragedy.”
McPhee thanked her husband for speaking up on her behalf about the emotional issue.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Calito was fatally struck by a vehicle on August 9 at a Toyota Dealer Service Center in Mission Hills, California.
Police said an 84-year-old woman drove a Toyota RAV4 into the building, hitting Calito and several other people inside.
Calito was pronounced dead at the hospital, while two employees at the dealership were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries in the incident, authorities said.
The driver was not injured in the incident, authorities said.
Foster and McPhee have resumed touring after taking a break following the tragic death of Calito, who was caring for the couple’s two-year-old son, Rennie Foster.
At the time, McPhee issued a statement saying she had left the tour early after the horrific incident.
“Dear Jakarta fans, it is with a heavy heart that I announce that I will miss our last two shows of our Asian run,” she said. “David and I have experienced a terrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us must return to our family.
“Please know how sorry I am and how much I want to come back and perform for you all one day. I love Katharine.’
A source told the paper last month that the celebrity couple were “devastated by her death” and were “prepared to do whatever they could for their lives.” [Calito’s] Family in this very difficult time.”
