“Sooooo long story short: Last week I was very short of breath, had chest pains and it turned out my HB levels were shockingly low!!! They should have been between 115 and 155 and mine was 67… my iron should have been between 38 and 48 but it was 1.5!!!

“I was diagnosed with ‘chronic anemia’.”

“I’m still investigating what caused it!” But thanks to the wonderful staff at Salford Royal, I was immediately taken to A&E and given two blood transfusions. “My HB levels have gone up to 94 so I can breathe again and my iron levels (now I take medication for it) are slowly increasing so my health is moving in the right direction!!!”

“I can honestly say I feel a million times better now…” I honestly can’t believe how bad I felt last week and how I was able to function the whole time!? I am now ready to get back to some routine….

“It’s a good thing, because the kids are only half separated. “Honestly… how are the school holidays again?’

The NHS says: “Iron deficiency anemia is caused by a lack of iron, often due to blood loss or pregnancy.” Treatment is with iron tablets and by eating iron-rich foods.

It comes after Lucy-Jo revealed earlier this week that she received two blood transfusions because her hemoglobin (HB) levels dropped to “dangerously low” levels.

HB is the protein in red blood cells that is responsible for supplying oxygen to tissues. To ensure adequate tissue oxygenation, adequate hemoglobin levels must be maintained.

Lucy-Jo shared photos on her social media page of the moment the transfusion was given, lying in a hospital bed and wearing a gown.

The soap star, who revealed at the time that doctors still don’t know what’s wrong with her, said: “Well, it’s been a strange few days…” I’m sorry to be so quiet here… but I was taken to the emergency room on Thursday afternoon because I needed a blood transfusion!’

She continued: “I ended up needing two, my HB levels were so dangerously low!” But thanks to the wonderful NHS staff at Salford Royal I am on the mend. Thank you so much to Robert Jackson and Freddy, you both made me feel so comfortable and you both looked after me so well in the emergency assessment unit… Just like you nurses… I can’t thank you all enough for don’t look after me I will be forever grateful.’

Lucy went on to explain that doctors will run further tests to make a diagnosis. She added: “I’ve got more tests booked next week to get to the bottom of this… I’m resting at home now… And I’m just trying to get my energy back!

“Sending you all lots of love… And this is not a “feel sorry for me” post, but rather to make you all aware that “self care” is so important in the crazy world we all live in right now .” The TV star added hashtags confirming how grateful she was to the NHS for her treatment.

Lucy, best known for her role as Donna-Marie Quinn in Hollyoaks, first appeared in the soap in 2018 and filmed her final scenes earlier this year.

She previously played Rosie Trevanion in the hit ITV drama series Wild at Heart between 2006 and 2013 and before that she played Katy Harris in Coronation Street between 2002 and 2005.

Lucy married her Corrie co-star Alan Halsall in 2009 and they were married for nine years before splitting in 2018. They welcomed their daughter Sienna-Rae in September 2013.

She is now in a relationship with Lewis Devine and the couple welcomed their first child together, Carter, now three, in February 2020.

During the summer, Lucy-Jo revealed that she feared her son would die of a terrible health crisis.

When he was 18 months old, she rushed Carter to Ormskirk Hospital in Lancashire because of his severe nut allergy.

Taking to Instagram, Lucy-Jo revealed that Carter went into anaphylactic shock after eating a snack with traces of nuts.

“Carter was 18 months old. “He was sitting in the car eating snacks while I was drinking tea with Sienna and suddenly he looked at me and I knew something was seriously wrong,” recalls Lucy Jo.

“He turned grey, his mouth turned blue and he began to limp completely.” He was having trouble breathing. God made my heart sink, I literally grabbed it out of the car, left the groceries behind, and Sienna and I just ran to my car.

“I strapped him into his car seat (which was terrible) because at that point he was unconscious the whole time and his skin was blotchy and I couldn’t hold him close to me because I had to drive to the emergency room.”

“It took ten minutes, but it felt like forever. “My poor Sienna sat in the back crying and asking me if he was going to die.”

Lucy-Jo said she tried to calm her now nine-year-old daughter Sienna when she went to hospital.

“I kept trying to reassure her that he was okay, but I couldn’t stop the tears. “I really thought we were going to lose him,” she said.

“I kept talking to him and told him to stay with us and he tried to get God to love him!” I remember rushing to the emergency room and just coming across the hospital where I met Carter with Sienna cradled by my side yelling, “He’s not breathing.”

“The nurses flew out of every door and took my baby from my arms and took him straight to a private room…

“Everything after that felt like a blur…” Nurse after nurse came in, doctors around him, oxygen mask on, adrenaline pumping into his leg, honestly the room was full of nurses trying to save him! It was the scariest moment of my life.”

Lucy-Jo revealed that she carries Carter’s Epi-Pen, which contains medication that blocks the progression of the allergic reaction in the body, with her everywhere and has to inform every restaurant of her nut allergy and read the labels of every food product.

She said: “Thank you to the wonderful staff at Ormskirk Hospital who saved our boys’ lives. We will be forever grateful.’
