And she could have won an Oscar: Julia Roberts failed miserably at these auditions

The acting talent of the star of “Pretty Woman” was not enough.

After filming Pretty Woman, Julia Roberts was considered one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood. In 1992 she was offered the role of Viola de Lesseps in the film Shakespeare in Love. Roberts agreed, but on one condition.

The actress only saw Daniel Day-Lewis as her co-star, but the actor was busy with another film. The movie star famously turned down Hugh Grant, Rupert Graves, Colin Firth, Sean Bean, Jeremy Northam and Ralph Fiennes. Finally, the red-haired beast agreed to Paul McGann’s participation.

However, it turned out that the celebrity was so passionate about selecting candidates that she completely forgot about her responsibilities. The role required her to develop a British accent, but Roberts didn’t even start studying. Meanwhile, the filming process began. The star of “Pretty Woman”, realizing that she could not cope, simply fled from London to the United States and announced that she refused to participate in the film.

Filming resumed a few years later. Gwyneth Paltrow got the lead role. In 1999, the actress received an Oscar for it, and Roberts could only bite her elbows.
