At the Peabody Awards on Thursday, it was announced that Lily Tomlin won the Peabody Career Achievement Award and Issa Rae won the Peabody Trailblazer Award. The awards will be presented at a ceremony for the 83rd annual Peabody Awards on June 11 in Los Angeles.
Jessica Williams, who currently stars in the Apple TV+ series Shrink, will host the ceremony, the first time the event has been held in LA. A total of 69 nominees will be eligible for the awards, which will honor the most compelling and powerful stories of 2022 in entertainment, documentary, news, arts, children/youth, podcast/radio, interactive and immersive, and public. service. Other Peabody honorees this year are NBC’s Todaywho won the organization’s Institutional Award, and Shari Frilot, senior programmer at the Sundance Film Festival, received the first-ever Visionary Award.

Tomlin, who has won two Peabody Awards over the course of her career, has won seven Emmys, two Tonys and a Grammy. She joins Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, Cicely Tyson, Dan Rather and Sam Pollard as recent career award winners.
The Trailblazer Awards “recognize visionaries who are impacting our culture and social change through their innovative stories,” according to the Peabodys. Part of Rae’s job is to garner a Peabody for her HBO series Uncertainwith newer credits including a Black Lady Sketch Show And Rap Sh!tworking with her in various fields with HOORAE, Raedio and ColorCreative.
