She is best known for her role as Lucy Smith in the historical drama Downton Abbey.

But Tuppence Middleton is swapping service quarters for the life of a legend as she prepares to take on the role of Elizabeth Taylor in the production The Motive and the Cue.

Although the role has quite a bit to fill, the actress revealed that she is not too nervous about the performance, admitting: “Bring it.”

In a new interview with Tatler, the star admitted she is “totally related” to Elizabeth, noting that they are “total romantics”.

While Tuppence also made the cover of the magazine with a beautiful photo shoot that turned her into the Hollywood legend.

Tuppence will star alongside actor Johnny Flynn as Elizabeth’s on-again, off-again husband Richard Burton in the production, which was written by playwright Jack Thorne. It was directed by multiple Oscar winner Sam Mendes.

Talking about the new role and Elizabeth herself, the star made some comparisons with the lives of the two actors.

She told Tatler: “Liz was a total romantic and I totally agree. Because we love the idea of ​​dipping our toes into other people’s lives, most actors are like, “What if I was born there or lived during that time?”

He continued: “I’ve always found it terrifying to come out as myself in public – on the red carpet or at an awards ceremony. But playing Liz? Come on. Come on.’

Opening at London’s National Theater in April, the play depicts scenes from 1964 of police trying to control the crowd as Elizabeth arrived on Broadway each night to see her husband perform.

But that hum might be the hardest to recreate, according to Tuppence.

She explains, “Almost the hardest part of it all is conveying to a younger audience how famous Burton and Taylor were.”

During the candid interview, Tuppence also opened up about her mental health and how she deals with anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Noting that she uses rituals, therapy and sometimes antidepressants to manage her struggles, the actress explained that it’s about “management” now.

The star is open about the struggles she has faced and also detailed the struggle in a recent interview with the Guardian.

Speaking about rehearsals for the play, she explained how her emetophobia sometimes gets in the way of her work.

“Johnny and I have to kiss each other [play] and one of my obsessions is emetophobia, which is the fear of vomiting,” she explained.

Adds, “And so I deal with ‘Oh, what if Johnny has norovirus’?”

She first spoke about OCD and anxiety in 2021, explaining at the time that she developed the former as a child and found ways to cope into adulthood.
