Russell Crowe reveals a bizarre incident that took place during the filming of his new supernatural horror film The Pope’s Exorcist

Hollywood superstar Russell Crowe has revealed a chilling incident that took place during the filming of his new horror film about demonic possession.

The 59-year-old Oscar winner said he found a dead bird on his doorstep the day after filming The Exorcist of the Pope.

Russell plays Father Gabrielle Amorth in the supernatural thriller, a real-life character who was stationed at the Vatican and is said to have performed 60,000 exorcisms.

Still, the Gladiator star was quick to dismiss any suggestion that the ghostly incident was the work of an alien evil force.

Joe Russell, who lives on a farm in northern NSW, shared the story on the British social media site and said he believed a wild animal was responsible for the gruesome find.

The incident happened while Russell was in Ireland filming The Exorcist of the Pope.

“Being an old bushy bunch, I put two and two together and realized there must be some creature that noticed we weren’t there and offered the dead bird as a welcome gift,” Russell explained. .

The star then appeared to be referring to the myriad stories of haunted sets and supernatural events that allegedly took place during the making of Hollywood “demon” classics such as The Exorcist (1973) and The Omen (1976).

“I think with a lot of those things, it really depends on what you’re willing to accept and whether you can stay objective or not,” he said.

‘[You]… seeing these things and understanding these things, and yet making sure you don’t go down the rabbit hole with that train of thought.

Russell plays Father Amorth, who died in 2016 at the age of 91 and wrote two books of gruesome tales of demonic possession: An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories.

His death sparked national mourning in Italy, where an estimated 500,000 people visit an exorcist each year.

Although the Catholic Church officially recognizes exorcism, its reformers see it as a medieval grave that plays with superstition to strengthen religious devotion.
