BRITISH SOAP AWARDS 2022: Shortlist nominees announced for this year’s June ceremony

The nominees for this year’s British Soap Awards have been announced.

Returning live to ITV for the first time in two years since the pandemic, the awards will honor the country’s biggest and best-loved soap operas.

The ceremony, scheduled for next month, celebrates twelve months in Emmerdale’s soap land, where Meena Jutla’s (Paige Sandhu) murderous frenzy will tackle hate crimes in Coronation Street for Best Story.

It was an unforgettable year at Albert Square, where Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) returns seven years later.

In Weatherfield, Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) dies from injuries sustained in a horrific hate crime.

With developments in Hollyoaks, the Summer Ranger (Rhiannon Clements) sets out to destroy Brody Hudson (Adam Woodward) for his role in his father’s death.

In the Valleys, Meena leaves a trail of murder and mayhem, while in Doctors the relationship between Rob Hollins (Chris Walker) and his wife Karen (Jan Pearson) is in jeopardy.

The five biggest soap operas – Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks – will compete against each other for recognition for their work over the past year.

The live awards, with host Phillip Schofield at the helm, are presented by many well-known faces from the worlds of television and entertainment.

The 14 awards were voted on by the public or a jury of experts.

After the 2020 and 2021 ceremonies were canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the return of the long-awaited ceremony has come.

Instead, ITV aired a 60-minute special in 2020 titled The British Soap Awards 21 Years Celebrates narrated by longtime host Phillip.
