Jeremy Strong shrugs off being called “f*cking annoying” by Brian Cox for the way he acts on set … as they hug and laugh during the Season 4 premiere of Succession

Jeremy Strong was spotted attending the premiere of the fourth and final season of Succession in New York City on Monday night.

Looking comfortable in a monochromatic brown ensemble, the 44-year-old actor appeared on the red carpet with wife Emma Wall and later posed with his co-stars.

The Armageddon Time star, who won a 2020 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role, plays Kendall Roy in the HBO dark comedy series.

On the upcoming season’s premiere night, Strong was also seen laughing with Brian Cox – after he commented that his son’s on-screen acting was “fucking annoying” – and many of his other co-stars are on the show.

The on-screen father-and-son duo starred Alan Ruck, Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook – who confirmed she was pregnant with their first child by showing off her baby bump at the premiere.

For his red carpet appearance, Strong opted for an effortlessly stylish look in one color while his wife wore all black.

He wore a brown jacket over a hooded jacket and a collar with a slightly darker shade.

He also wore hot brown trousers to match, but added a pop of color with green trainers laced up with contrasting magenta laces.

He simply combines it with silver bracelets, a signet ring and his wedding ring.

He also posed on the red carpet with his guest of honor – his wife of about seven years.

By his side, the child psychiatrist and documentary filmmaker, who tied the knot with Strong in a castle in Denmark in 2016, wore a simple yet stylish dark outfit that showed off her light blonde hair and fair complexion.

The Guest House Productions co-founder wore a black velvet blouse with satin buttons and matching trousers.

The long-sleeved top has a slightly ruffled shiny collar and matching cuffs, which she tied with a pair of black shiny ballet flats.

Strong was also seen sharing a laugh with Cox on the red carpet – suggesting there is no beef following his recent criticism of his son’s on-screen acting.

Previously, the 76-year-old actor – who plays the family patriarch – said it was “damn annoying” when Strong stayed in character on set as part of his method acting technique.

In an interview with Town and Country in late February, Cox was asked what it’s like to be with someone who is always in character.

“Oh, it’s bloody annoying,” he said in response, generally slapping method acting. “Don’t get me started.”

Strong is known for using and incorporating strict method acting into all of his performances – including his role as Kendall Roy on Succession.

“I take it as seriously as I take my own life,” Strong previously said of practicing identity-splitting and his character in a December 2021 interview with The New Yorker.

According to the Lee Strasberg Theater & Film Institute, method acting is a training technique that “trains actors to use their physical, mental, and emotional selves in character creation.”

By definition, The Method encourages actors to fully embrace their roles, both on and off screen.

“It’s right there and accessible,” Cox said, claiming that acting is just an innate talent. “It’s not a great religious experience.”

The Manhunter star praised Strong for his talent, but also said he won’t “lose” his talent if he takes a moment to embody his character off screen.

“He’s bloody talented,” says Cox. “When you have the gift, celebrate the gift. Go back to your trailer and take a hit of weed, you know?”

At the Toronto Film Festival in September, Cox again criticized Strong’s method acting techniques – which he called “American sh*t”.

He also revealed that he doesn’t stick with the characters he plays once production is complete – unlike actors like Strong.

“I’m not into American shit — every time you play a role, you have to have a religious experience,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “That’s cr*p.”

All of the criticism stems from concern for Strong, as Cox has previously admitted he worries about the on-screen “injury” his son inflicts on himself playing the role.

In the same New Yorker article, Cox responded to Strong’s profile. “The result Jeremy gets is always pretty good,” he said. “I’m just worried about what he’s doing to himself.”

He added: “I am concerned about the crises he is going through to prepare.”

“I don’t know how popular my way of working is with our group,” Strong also mentioned in the same article.

But since his character, Kendall Roy, is considered the black sheep of the family, this approach to on-screen dynamics may actually add realism to the satirical tragic comedy and contribute to its current success.
