ITV Granada reports broadcaster Charles Foster – who also appeared in Coronation Street and Emmerdale – has died as tributes pour in

Actor and former ITV presenter Charles Foster has died.

Charles, who previously appeared in both Coronation Street and Emmerdale, was the face of Granada TV from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Most recently he voiced Judge Rinder for ITV, but has also done voice work for Catchphrase and The Krypton Factor.

Granada Reports producer Rob Jaskowski led the tribute to Charles, saying: “Charles was such a lovely person.

“I remember being stuck in the Quay Street canteen with him on my first day of training in Granada in 1984.

“He was great to talk to and a true inspiration. Condolences to his family and friends.”

Meanwhile, BBC presenter Steve Saul wrote: “I am sorry to hear the reports of the death of former Granada TV announcer and spokesman Charles Foster.

“Along with Colin Weston and Jim Pope, they were the friendly face of ITV growing up.

“I would have loved to have been an In-Vision Continuity announcer.”

Born in Wirral, Charles was married to actress Meg Johnson, who appeared in Coronation Street, Brookside and Taggart.

Fan tributes also poured in, with one person writing: “Charles Foster, like many Granada presenters at the time, had both authority and warmth in his voice.

“I was so privileged when he made me a set of routes for my Friday night talk show ‘Taking Issue’ on Radio City along with our newscasts in the mid-’80s.”

Another account wrote: “RIP Charles Foster. In Granada’s heyday the continuity announcers were as much a part of your viewing experience as the shows themselves.”
