Sophia Simmons she is a married woman. The 30-year-old singer, television personality and daughter of Gene Simmons AND Shannon Tweed-Simmonsshe married her lifelong love, James Hendersonon February 22nd. Five days after the couple obtained their marriage license in a Los Angeles courthouse, the two exchanged vows in front of fifty friends and family in the backyard of their mother’s Malibu home. In the photos obtained by PEOPLE, Sophie looks radiant in her shimmering blush gown by Galia Lahav. James wore a Tom Ford suit.
After guests arrived to enjoy snacks and drinks, the couple kicked off the ceremony, with Sophie walking down the aisle in her Maria Elena wedding gown and headpiece. “No One Will Love You” group of horses it rang, a nod to the romance between Sophie and James. “When my fiancé and I started dating nine years ago, she took me to a Band of Horses concert,” Sophie told PEOPLE. “I was so tired of filming our reality show Shannon and Sophie at that moment I fell asleep on his shoulder. We were too early in the dating stage for me to do that. Luckily, he thought he was cute and woke me up with that song.”
After exchanging vows, James and Sophie took their first steps as a couple towards Lively eyes‘ “First Day of My Life”, as it is James’s favorite band.
“We couldn’t be more proud of our daughter,” Gene and Shannon told PEOPLE in a statement. “James is a solid guy and Sophie can do anything she sets her mind. We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness. If they have half the happiness we have, they will last a long time.”
The couple started dating in 2014 after Sophie had coffee at the restaurant where James worked as a waiter. She fell in love with her “hot” waiter and gave him her number. They went on a date later that day and have been together ever since.
James proposed to Sophie in July 2022 during a family trip to Switzerland. Sophie shared the news of her engagement on her Instagram, along with a black and white photo of her ring. “This is the moment,” she captioned the photo. said Sophia PEOPLE that the COVID-19 pandemic made them realize how important it was for them to get married: if one was hospitalized, the other could not legally see them unless they were husband and wife. After James proposed to her, Gene advised him to get married later that year. The logistics for that date didn’t work out, so they made it happen with this February wedding.

On Thursday (February 23), the couple will host 250 family and friends at a reception in Los Angeles. “The reception party is the big moment,” Simmons said. “Let’s party until the sun comes up.”
Sophie and James chose their mother’s courtyard for their wedding because ‘the view is second to none’. The couple also chose this ceremony to accommodate their families’ religious beliefs, opting to have them married in court by a judge and making the exchange of vows more about love than anything else. They also “learned all the language of wife obedience vows and stuff like that,” Sophie said. “We wanted it to be super equal, because our partnership is really equal.”
