Morgan Wallen’s return continues after a scandal in which he was seen using racial abuse in a video.
Wallen was banned from several awards due to his February 2021 footage, including the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. A few months later, he organized an apology tour and spoke to black organizations about his mistake. He has since reprized his own record label after a hiatus of several months.
Now, MRC, which runs the Billboard Music Awards, is allowing the country star to return. The company included Wallen in the cast of the 2022 show, which airs May 15, and announced the decision to Deadline.
It says the following:
We oppose any form of discrimination, harassment or racism. We believe in treating everyone with dignity and respect. After an extensive review and solid discussions with the in-house and art team, where we found a demonstrated and consistent commitment to important work and relationships, we received an invitation to attend this year’s show.
The game has been the center of Wallen’s attention in the last few moves. Last year, the country star had the most popular album on the Billboard charts in all genres. This year she started the tour in February and won Album of the Year at the ACM Awards in March.
