Behind the Lens with Oscar-winning producer Jon Landau on “Avatar: The Way Of Water”, “Titanic” and “What It Feels Like” at the top of the (box office) world

What can you say about a man credited as “Produced By” in three of the world’s top four highest-grossing films of all time? Well, you could say his name is James Cameron…or you’d be right if you said Jon Landau.

Landau has made an amazing journey from 20th Century Fox CEO to Oscar-winning producer with a success few can imagine. Ask anyone who knows him and they’ll tell you this comes as no surprise to this hard-working, smart and capable man who was born into the business. His parents, Ely and Edie Landau, did not make films on their son’s scale, but instead produced credits like classic 1960s. A long day’s journey in the night And The pawnbroker (not to mention the innovative American Film Theater series of Broadway stage films), this clearly rubbed off on Jon, who actually grew up watching the movies, and that included going to USC.

Landau is with me this week in this week’s edition of my Behind the Lens Deadline video series where we talk about his incredible success and him in particular avatar: the way of water, which earned him his third Best Picture Oscar nomination after the original avatar 2009 and of course titanic 1997 – what avatar 2 just surpassed in the worldwide box office charts. It shouldn’t take too long though titanic, winner of 11 Oscars, is back in theaters around the world today, just in time for Valentine’s Day and completely remastered with a restored 4K 3D release via Paramount. It follows the remarkable sustained run of avatar: the way of water, is still going strong after spending the first two months at number one on the charts. (Also, as we learned this week, avatar is about to get its own new attraction at Disneyland.)

These are undoubtedly good times for Landau and his partner Cameron, and he talks about them, including hints about what happens with the next three films in the series, why cinema is still so important, what other projects they have. including this long possible reinvention of Fantastic tripand much more.
