Comedian and Grammy host Randy Rainbow has heard all the Valhalla jokes.
“Yes, I totally had a Travolta/Adel Dazeem moment,” he tweeted today in an apology.
Co-host Rainbow twisted the winner’s statement when she presented the first ever Video Game Music Grammy during the pre-show premiere ceremony Assassin’s Creed Valhallato say something like “Assassin’s….Creed Valaha”.
In a tweet titled “Sincere apologies to Assassin’s Creed VALHALLA,” Rainbow – who was nominated in the Best Comedy Album category – explained: “It was the second category of the show, I’m still finding my feet and I don’t know video games . . And of the many phonetic spellings I’ve struggled with as a host, this wasn’t one of them, so I just started speaking in tongues.”
The award was presented during Sunday afternoon’s ceremony to composer Stephanie Economou for her music in Ubisoft’s video game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, a billion-dollar money maker. The Grammy is just the latest compliment for Economou, who won last year’s Society of Composers & Lyricists Emerging Talent Award for her work at Netflix. Jupiter’s legacy.
Rainbow’s “Valaha” quickly went viral, drawing comparisons to John Travolta’s bizarre mutilation of Idina Menzel’s name as “Adel Dazeem” at the 2014 Oscars.
“If it’s any consolation,” Rainbow tweeted, “when my nominated category came up, they accidentally pronounced my name ‘Dave Chappelle’.”
