Penelope Koechl receives this year’s Richard B. Jablow Award from the WGA East for her dedicated service to the Guild. The honorary award will be presented on March 5 at the 75th annual Writers Guild Awards at New York’s Edison Ballroom.
Koechl, who has served five terms on the Guild Board, currently serves on the Trustee Review and Appointments Committee and chairs the Elections Committee. After joining the guild in 1986, she served as deputy on the 1988 strike committee, the 2001 bargaining committee and the 2007 bargaining committee. “My friend and colleague Penelope Koechl has been and always will be an inspiring presence at the Guild,” said WGA East President Michael Winship. “We are grateful for her time and hard work, not to mention the creativity and skill she has contributed to strengthening our union. At our 75th Annual Writers Guild Awards, she is a popular recipient of our Jablow Award. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to her.”
The award is named after the guild’s first advisor, who helped found the guild and drafted its foundation. It will be presented to Koechl by Lisa Takeuchi Cullen, the Guild’s vice president of film/TV/streaming. Past honorees include Claire Labine, Herb Sargent, Ernest Kinoy, Stephen Schiff, James Schamus, Warren Leight, Chris Albers, Courtney Simon and Tom Fontana.
