Hello and welcome to another episode of the Scene 2 Seen Podcast!! I’m your host Valerie Complex, associate editor and film writer at Deadline. Tonight’s episode features actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

In her latest project, the Apple TV+ series Arrive (where she also serves as an executive producer), Raw stars as Sohie, a woman who has suffered a traumatic head injury that leaves her with extreme amnesia believed to be the result of a suicide attempt. As Sophie, with the help of her husband and friends, begins a search to put the pieces of her life back together, she begins to question whether the truth she’s been told is the truth she’s been living. Looking back on her career, Raw is an award-winning stage and screen actress. Her stage performances include hamlet (2009) with Jude Law in the West End, Elsinore in Denmark and Broadway and Nelle Gwynn (2015), for which she was nominated for Best Actress at the 2015 Evening Standard Theater Awards.

In film, Gugu starred with Tom Hanks in Larry Crowne (2011) and historical dramas Lovely (2013), for which she won Best Actress at the 2014 BIFA Awards concussion (2015) Raw co-starred with Will Smith in the 2018 Disney film Ava Duvernay A time creation opposite Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon.
