‘I didn’t really get it’: Katie Holmes reveals she almost quit acting when she was 17 when work dried up after her first film role in ‘The Ice Storm’

Katie Holmes almost quit acting at the age of 17 when work dried up after her first film role.

The 44-year-old actress made her acting debut in Ang Lee’s 1997 film The Ice Storm, but after she finished she struggled to get more work – and feared her career would be over after just one film.

During an appearance on Tuesday’s Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, she explained: “Well, I was 17 and I remember coming to New York, me and my mom, and we shot it, and I was like, “Oh, that’s what I want to do”. Big.

“And then I went home and put myself up for several auditions, and I didn’t really get anything and I was like, ‘Oh, well, this could be it. You know, that could be all there is.’

“But it was okay because I was like, ‘You know what, it’s okay. It was a wonderful experience. And I can tell my grandchildren and it will be fine.’”

Host Jimmy then asked: “Are you happy with that?”

Katie replied, “Well, I mean, I wanted more work, but I was like, ‘Don’t, you know, be greedy.’
