The King Philip VI He has done it again, taking another historic step in his reign: revealing his personal legacy in great detail. In the line of transparency and regeneration of the institution that he has always wanted to flaunt, and through a statement from the Royal House, he has for the first time disclosed the amount of his personal wealth: just over two and a half million euros†
More precisely, the amount Felipe VI has in his personal accounts is 2,573,392 euros, of which 2,267,942.80 euros in deposits on current or savings accounts and the rest, 305,450 euros, invested in art, antiques and personal jewellery.
But how did Felipe VI arrive at this amount and what is the origin of his personal fortune? The monarch has also wanted to explain in a groundbreaking gesture in which he returns to give meaning to the speech with which he started his government on June 19, 2014: “citizens rightly demand that moral and ethical principles are inspiring for our public life. And the king , at the head of the state, should not only be a reference, but also a servant of that fair and legitimate demand of all citizens.” That is why Don Felipe wanted to clarify it via the origin of its funds dates back to 1998when he begins to receive his commission as Prince of Asturias. Since then, and until the end of the last financial year – December 2021 – the monarch has received this concept EUR 4,275,796.94 million, from which tax payments and taxes must be deducted. This is confirmed by the official statement: “His Majesty’s wealth consists mainly of the allowances he has received from the household budgets for the past 25 years.”
In favor of exemplification, King Felipe has already taken many other steps during his reign, which will celebrate its eighth birthday in just over a month. Telling the world about his personal heritage is the last, but before that he renounced his father’s inheritance and revoked his allotment of the institution, renounced his figure as beneficiary of the Lucum Foundation, evicted the Infanta Cristina from her title of Duchess of Palma and regularized gifts to members of the royal family, among other gestures that have no other purpose than “cleaning” and regenerating the image of a damaged crown as a result of the scandals that befell his father, King Juan Carlos, in the last years of his rule.
