This hero of the film was found on the street.
Initially, the director ordered a specially trained trained dog from the capital for Mimino, but the filmmaker looked at him and refused to portray the animal – too well-groomed and unlike a simple mongrel.
A suitable candidate was accidentally spotted on the street. So Zarbazan appeared in the film, he turned out to be very quick-witted and did everything necessary without any training. The main character only had to carry a piece of sausage in his hand.
After the film, one of the employees of the film crew took the homeless actor to Moscow, where he lived in care and ate plenty. Unfortunately, the dog was already old and soon died. They decided to bury the shaggy actor in Mosfilm’s garden.
“Short, or rather, small, shaggy, one ear sticks out vertically, the other dangles. Spiky beard, independent gait. The real Zarbazan!” – recalls the words of the director “New Hearth”.
