Cameron Diaz surfaced in Santa Barbara, California on Thursday for a rare afternoon stroll alongside her longtime Hollywood friend Zoe Saldana.

The appearance marks the 53-year-old actress's first public outing since announcing three months ago that she and her husband, Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, had welcomed their third child together.

Cameron Diaz surfaced in Santa Barbara, California on Thursday - just three months after announcing she had welcomed her third child with husband Benji Madden

Diaz looked noticeably makeup-free for the casual outing, tucking her signature blonde hair beneath a wide-brimmed straw sunhat. She wore a simple white T-shirt paired with baggy black jeans and brown Birkenstock-style sandals, carrying the sleeves of a gray sweater tied loosely around her neck as she walked and talked with Saldana.

Saldana, 48, matched Diaz's relaxed style in slouchy blue jeans, sandals, and a layered tank top. The Oscar-winning star kept her eyes shaded behind large designer sunglasses and wore her brunette hair slicked back into a tight ponytail.

Santa Barbara, a coastal city situated northwest of Los Angeles, is widely known as a popular residential enclave for high-profile film stars and entertainment figures seeking privacy away from Hollywood.

Friendship with Zoe Saldana

Diaz and Saldana have shared a close bond for many years. In 2024, Saldana offered a public tribute to Diaz during a speech at Elle's Women in Hollywood event, revealing that her three young sons call the Charlie's Angels actress "Tia," the Spanish word for aunt.

Speaking directly to Diaz from the stage, Saldana praised her friend's balance of family life and Hollywood success. "Cameron, I am so happy. I'm so inspired by watching you really craft both your massive career and your beautifully private life exactly your own way," Saldana said.

"It is an honor to know you and what a gift for my kids to call you Tia, and I call you friend," Saldana added during the speech. "I love you. Thank you for being [on the] line for me, for us and for me."

Saldana shares her three sons, Cy, Bowie, and Zen, with her longtime husband, artist Marco Perego. Saldana is widely recognized for her leading roles in major cinematic franchises, including Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Star Trek.

Along with their newborn son, Diaz and Madden, who have been married since 2015, are also parents to daughter Raddix, six, and son Cardinal, two; the couple seen in 2016

Arrival of Third Child Nautas

The casual walk in Santa Barbara comes just months after Diaz and Madden expanded their family with the birth of their third child, a son named Nautas, in May 2026.

Madden, 47, formally confirmed the news on social media on May 3. "Cameron and I are Happy, Excited, and feeling so BLESSED to announce the birth of our third Child, Nautas Madden. Welcome to the world Son!!" Madden wrote in an Instagram post.

In an interview given just weeks before Nautus's arrival, Diaz provided rare insight on her life as a working mom after welcoming her first child at age 47; seen in April

The Good Charlotte musician added in his statement: "We love life with our family- our kids are healthy&happy, and we are grateful!!!having a blast ❤️Sending all our best wishes- the Madden Family ❤️"

Diaz and Madden, who married in 2015, are also parents to a six-year-old daughter named Raddix and a two-year-old son named Cardinal. Madden rose to fame in the late 1990s as the lead guitarist and co-founder of pop-punk group Good Charlotte, which he formed alongside his twin brother Joel Madden.

Return to Acting After Hiatus

In an interview conducted just weeks prior to the birth of Nautas, Diaz shared rare comments about navigating her career as a mother after first giving birth at age 47.

The actress discussed ending her decade-long break from acting in 2025 and returning to feature films with the Apple TV+ comedy Outcome (2026), starring alongside Keanu Reeves.

Diaz said that she was 'glad [she] took a break' from Hollywood for 10 years so that she could focus on her husband and children

"To be able to still do this at such a high level with people like Keanu Reeves is a thrill for me," Diaz told Ok! Magazine when discussing her work on the film.

Diaz explained that she was "glad [she] took a break" from film production for ten years to prioritize her household and children. "I was able to focus on family and a part of my life that means so much to me but I still love doing this. It's the best job in the world," she said.

She emphasized her devotion to her family, stating that she "loves" being a mother and calling parenthood the "best" part of her life. Reflecting on parenting later in life, Diaz added: "I'm just trying to stay alive just like every other mother."

Diaz first achieved international stardom in classic 1990s comedies such as The Mask and There's Something About Mary before starring in the blockbuster Charlie's Angels franchise, becoming one of the film industry's highest-paid actresses before stepping back from screen work in 2014.

Influence of Gwyneth Paltrow and Benji Madden

Diaz has previously attributed her decision to enter motherhood to the encouragement of her close friend Gwyneth Paltrow and her husband Madden, admitting that becoming a parent transformed her "whole existence."

Speaking on a 2022 episode of Paltrow's Goop podcast, Diaz recounted how Paltrow, who has two children, 22-year-old Apple and 20-year-old Moses, consistently urged her to start a family throughout their friendship.

On the podcast, Diaz acknowledged how much her perspective had shifted. "It's my favorite thing I've ever done, it's my whole existence, you were right," Diaz told Paltrow.

Paltrow recalled their earlier conversations, noting: "those conversations back in the day, you saying 'I'm not sure I want a kid.'"

Diaz recalled Paltrow's persistent advice: "You were like, 'You're going to have a child if it's the last thing you do! Yes you are.' I was not convinced I was going to."

Paltrow responded: "Of all the people, you just had to be a mother. Not everybody wants to do it and that's great but I knew you were one, I just had to pull her out of you."

Diaz expressed her lasting appreciation for the guidance, concluding: "I love you for that, I think about it all the time and I totally give you credit. You and Benji, the two of you, if it wasn't for him I obviously wouldn't [have become a mother]."

Paltrow, an Academy Award-winning actress for Shakespeare in Love and star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, launched her lifestyle and wellness venture Goop in 2008.
