Wet hair is equally sensitive. In dry strands, cuticle scales fit tightly together, creating an integrated structure and protecting the shaft from damage. When you wash your hair, the scales open, so the hair can easily get injured or stretched. Therefore, below we will talk about a few things that should not be done when the hair strands are wet.
Rub with a towel
Many people use this method to make their hair dry faster. However, in this case, the hair is damaged not only by the towel but also by each other. Over time, this leads to brittleness and dryness. Therefore, it is better to pat your hair with a towel to remove excess moisture.
Comb
As we said before, since the hair scales do not close completely after washing, the comb may stick to them, stretch and get injured. The hair can be combed when it is almost completely dry or when we wash your hair, apply conditioner (it covers the hair scales and provides a good glide).
Tie a tight ponytail
Another thing you should not do with wet hair is tie it into a tight ponytail, braid or bun. This will cause the wires to stretch and weaken. By the way, tight hairstyles negatively affect hair health in general – they create severe tension from root to tip. The best condition for hair is natural. They feel most accurate because they have a loose fit.
Blow dry
It is best to dry hair that is already dry. And of course, you need to remember to apply heat protectant before doing this. If you dry your hair immediately after a shower, the sudden temperature change may cause your hair to dry out and become brittle. By the way, this applies not only to hair dryers but also to irons. Once your hair is dry, you can start styling it.
Sleep
We devoted a separate article to this topic. However, in short, sleeping with wet hair can cause dandruff, and when the hair in this situation rubs against the pillow, it becomes even more tangled and deformed.
Of course, if you comb your wet hair once or tie it in a tight ponytail, nothing will happen to it. However, if you do this regularly, over time the strands may lose their shine and become brittle. Therefore, it is best to wait until it dries completely and only then proceed to combing, drying or styling.
