Light and long-lasting: the best makeup bases for summer

Let’s make it very clear from the first line: there is nothing better to even out skin tone, hide blemishes and other imperfections than a suitable make-up base. Finding the perfect product is of course quite complicated as the temperature rises. What do we ask of an ideal make-up base in the summer? That it is light, that it stays perfectly all day and that it covers all imperfections. And of course that it adapts to the skin color.

“When choosing a makeup base, you have to consider the undertone of the skin, not the tone. The latter can be light or dark, it can vary depending on the season of the year or sun exposure. What will never change is the undertone of the skin. The undertone refers to the temperature or warmth of the skin. If we don’t choose the right undertone, we will never get the foundation to adapt to the skin of the face,” explains professional make-up artist Cristina Lobato.

Cold, warm or neutral. How to correctly identify the undertone of the skin?

The makeup artist explains that the undertone can be divided into three types: cold, warm and neutral.

  • cool undertones: skin that becomes red easily, is reactive or sensitive to the sun. They are thin skins, light and pink.
The most suitable foundation for this skin type are pink undertones.
  • warm undertone: skins with yellowish or golden pigmentation. The vast majority of Hispanic women fall into this classification because they tend to be warmer.
The right makeup base for this type of skin is a yellow undertone.
  • Neutral undertone: skins that may show areas of different pigmentations. They are more beige skins.
The suitable make-up base for this skin type is a beige undertone.
