No, they are not all the same. Every ‘tear in the fabric’ -or wrinkle, as we all know them- corresponds to a specific technique. And be careful, we’re not just talking about using cosmetics or products that can be used at home to reduce them… but about treatments that actually work to eliminate them. Which ones are on the market and which one is best for each type of wrinkle? Paloma González Rodriguez, doctor and director of the Chamberí clinic, talks about it. “Aesthetic medicine offers a wide range of anti-aging treatments, depending on each type of wrinkle, the area it is in and the factor that causes it. Stress, pollution, age, solar radiation, lifestyle, skin type… The function of the aesthetic doctor is to take these factors into account and to prescribe the most suitable treatment”, says the expert. Take note!
5 types of wrinkles… and their solution.
-Dynamic or expression wrinkles. “These wrinkles arise in highly mobile areas, such as the forehead and eye contour. The star treatment is botulinum toxin (known as botox), as it manages to paralyze the muscles (without ‘freezing’) and inhibit or prevent the formation of wrinkles. Ultrasound and radio frequency are also effective,” says Paloma.
-Deep wrinkles† “These wrinkles appear over the years due to the loss of collagen and elastin that occur naturally in the body. Bad habits such as tobacco or excessive exposure to solar radiation accelerate the appearance. The strategy to treat them effectively includes infiltrations of cross-linked hyaluronic acid, a fully biocompatible filling material that swells the extracellular matrix and fills wrinkles,” emphasizes the expert.
– Wrinkles from dehydration. “More than wrinkles, these are fine lines that appear all over the face, on the hands and on the décolleté when the skin begins to struggle to maintain its ideal water level. A good idea is to treat these wrinkles with revitalizing injectables rich in vitamins and minerals.” To treat them, it is of course also important to keep the skin hydrated by drinking enough water and using suitable cosmetics.
-Photoaging wrinkles. “These wrinkles disappear by stretching the skin, the previous step to the deep wrinkle, and are produced by not using sun protection, which amplifies the decline in cellular metabolism. A medical peel renews the skin’s surface, accelerates cell renewal and softens these types of wrinkles,” says Paloma.
– Neck crimps. “These wrinkles are deep lines of expression that can appear at a very young age, especially on longer necks. In recent years, the number of cases has increased enormously due to the use of mobile phones and other technologies. For these types of wrinkles, we have tensor wires, a reabsorbable material with a lifting effect that creates a mechanical tensor effect and promotes collagen formation,” says the doctor.
