Followers of the late Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga say two of her predictions for 2026 have already come true, while three more dramatic ones, including an alien encounter and the political downfall of Russian President Vladimir Putin, are still supposedly waiting to happen, according to Wion.
Astrology, tarot reading, numerology, palmistry and similar practices are not scientific disciplines. They are based on old traditions and beliefs that have not been confirmed by scientific research, and such material is often intended as entertainment rather than a basis for real decisions.
Predictions Followers Say Already Came True
Believers linked one supposed prophecy, about a wave of major natural disasters, to the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that hit Myanmar in March and caused mass destruction and thousands of deaths, as well as heat waves and wildfires in Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy, flooding in parts of Asia, and severe storms in the United States. Reports note the prophecy gave no specific timing or location, and disasters of this kind occur every year regardless.
A second claim involves artificial intelligence replacing human workers on a large scale. There is no reliable record of when Vanga supposedly made this prediction or what she actually said, even though AI development has been underway for decades.
Alien Contact Prophecy Set for November
Interpretations of another prediction suggest humanity could encounter aliens after a huge spacecraft enters Earth's atmosphere, with the claim reportedly tied to a specific window in November. Interest has grown alongside the release of declassified US government files on unidentified anomalous phenomena, with a batch of UFO-related documents made public on Friday, August 7. An unidentified object does not equal proof of an alien spacecraft, and could turn out to be a drone, aircraft, balloon, satellite, atmospheric phenomenon or sensor error.
A Prediction of World War Three
A darker interpretation claims China will attempt to seize Taiwan while tensions between Russia and the United States escalate into direct conflict. As of August 7, neither had happened: Taiwan remains self-governed and Russia and the US have not gone to war directly, though the war in Ukraine and broader tensions between major powers keep the prophecy circulating.
Putin's Predicted Exit
The final major prediction attributed to Vanga holds that Putin will lose power and be replaced by a new leader before the end of 2026. Putin has dominated Russian politics for more than 18 years across two presidential terms, and there is currently no public indication he is preparing to step down. Speculation about his health and political future has circulated for years, particularly amid the war in Ukraine, but past rumors have not led to his resignation.
