Avengers: Endgame Encore Heading to Cinemas and Disney+

Marvel Studios will re-release Avengers: Endgame in theaters on September 25 under the title Avengers Endgame: Encore featuring four minutes of new footage.

The theatrical return serves as a prelude to the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe feature Avengers: Doomsday, which premieres in cinemas on December 18.

The upcoming re-release marks the latest theatrical run for the 2019 blockbuster, which previously returned to cinemas during its initial release period. Unlike its previous theatrical return, this engagement is not aimed at surpassing James Cameron's Avatar at the global box office, but rather at preparing fans for upcoming developments in the franchise.

Added content and technical changes

The Encore edition introduces approximately four minutes of additional running time. The added material includes a special introduction alongside extra footage, though the exact placement of the new scenes within the film has not been disclosed.

A new post-credits scene serves as the primary attraction for the re-release. Marvel Studios designed the sequence specifically to connect the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame with the storyline of Avengers: Doomsday.

Visual updates to the film feature a modified color grade with increased contrast and color saturation. The adjustment addresses widespread viewer criticism regarding the original release's muted and greyish color palette.

The theatrical run also serves to launch Infinity Vision, a new technical certification established by Disney and Marvel for large-format cinema auditoriums. The program certifies theater venues that meet specific standards for high-grade projection and sound reproduction.

Phase 3 context and streaming availability

Avengers: Endgame was the penultimate installment of Phase 3 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, previously clarified that Spider-Man: Far From Home officially concluded that phase of the franchise.

Released originally in 2019, Avengers: Endgame brought together superhero characters from across the franchise to conclude a story arc spanning more than twenty films. Feige has guided the multi-billion dollar franchise since its inception, overseeing its progression through distinct narrative phases.

Following its theatrical run, Avengers Endgame: Encore will become available for home viewing on the Disney+ streaming service at an unannounced later date. It remains unconfirmed whether the Encore edition will replace the existing cut of Avengers: Endgame on the platform or stream alongside it.

Disney+ serves as the primary digital hub for Marvel Studios feature films and television series. The re-release will allow home viewers to access the updated cut before Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18 as one of the major Hollywood releases of the year.
