Argentina Offers Colombia Aid After Deadly 7.4 Quake

Argentina's government, led by President Javier Milei, has offered to send aid to Colombia and expressed condolences after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the Andean country on Monday, killing at least 111 people.

Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno said on social media that Argentina stood in solidarity with the people and government of Colombia, extending condolences to victims' families and support to those affected. He said his government was in contact with Colombian authorities and had conveyed Argentina's willingness to provide whatever assistance is needed. Quirno added that Argentina's consular office had found no Argentine citizens among the victims so far.

Colombia declares national disaster

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella declared a national disaster, reporting 111 deaths, 87 injuries, 1,575 damaged homes, 37 destroyed homes, 61 collapsed buildings, 18 damaged health centers and 52 damaged schools.

The Colombian Geological Service said the magnitude 7.4 quake struck at 7:34 a.m. local time, centered in San Jose del Palmar, Choco, at a depth of 82 kilometers, damaging much of central and western Colombia.
