Amazon's Prime Video is developing four new television series set in the Spider-Man universe, even as the streamer confirmed that its miniseries "Spider-Noir" will not return for a second season, entertainment industry outlet The Ankler reported.
One of the four projects is close to being ready to begin production, according to the report. Plot details and casting for any of the four have not been disclosed.
Prime Video is Amazon's subscription video streaming service. Sony Pictures holds the screen rights to Spider-Man and has licensed the character for film and television projects produced by other studios, including Marvel Studios for the character's feature films.
The Ankler did report the list of writers attached to the shows' development. They include Kelvin Yu, creator of "American Born Chinese"; Ben H. Winters, creator of the series "Tracker"; and Alison Tatlock, a writer on "Better Call Saul."
Also involved are Ben Nedivi and Matt Wolpert, the creators of the science fiction drama "For All Mankind," along with Megan McDonnell, who has worked on Marvel projects including "WandaVision" and "Agatha All Along."
Which project moves forward
It is not yet clear which writer is responsible for which concept, but all four have reportedly been developed and pitched to executives at Sony and Amazon. Only one of the four will be selected to move into production in the near term, as the studios do not plan to launch multiple Spider-Man series simultaneously, according to the report.
Spider-Man, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, is one of Marvel's best-known characters and has been the subject of numerous film and television adaptations over the decades.
Spider-Noir's ending
"Spider-Noir" was worked on by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot. Its creators originally planned a second season, but the story was ultimately given a complete arc and released as a miniseries instead.
