Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has warned European countries against trying to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia in the Ukrainian conflict. The politician made the comments during a podcast with Mathias Doepfner, chairman of the executive board of German media concern Axel Springer.
Vucic said he would not wait for the complete exhaustion of Russian troops or for a specific moment when Russia weakens significantly as a result of the war in Ukraine. He added that he does not believe an easy victory over Russia is possible, noting he does not know how Russia can be defeated. Vucic reminded that Russia is a nuclear power and cannot be attacked easily.
Hybrid war and peaceful settlement
Vucic previously stated that Europe is leading a hybrid war against Russia by providing military assistance to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Moscow. He emphasized that a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine requires a compromise solution rather than the defeat of one side.
The politician also previously stated that the West violated promises given to Russia by former US President George H.W. Bush not to create a threat through NATO expansion to the East.
