The selection highlights classic and cropped puffer down jackets with high funnel-neck collars, crafted from soft sheepskin and completed with matte or semi-gloss finishes. Puffer jackets, which rely on insulated compartments to trap heat, have evolved from specialised mountaineering gear into everyday winter essentials.

Outerwear featuring a built-in stole or scarf that creates volume around the neck and shoulders will also be a major trend, according to the magazine. The Japanese fashion house Sacai displayed similar pieces on the runway in neutral grey, brown and black shades.

Sacai, founded in Tokyo in 1999 by designer Chitose Abe, is celebrated in luxury fashion for hybrid designs that fuse contrasting materials and unexpected shapes. Vogue, which has chronicled seasonal style since the late nineteenth century, regularly analyses designer collections from fashion weeks in Paris, Milan, London and New York to forecast consumer outerwear trends.

Retro fur styles and bomber jackets

Fur jackets inspired by the young sciura aesthetic have also earned a prominent place on the winter trend list. The magazine's experts highlighted cropped and voluminous cuts in solid brown and black, alongside eye-catching versions finished with animal prints.

The word sciura originates from the local dialect of Milan in northern Italy, where it traditionally describes wealthy, impeccably groomed women known for luxury fur coats and understated bourgeois elegance. Fashion commentators use the term to describe younger shoppers adopting retro European glamour and vintage tailoring.

Insulated bomber jackets in various silhouettes and winter jackets with plush shearling inserts also featured among the top seasonal recommendations. Shearling, produced from tanned sheepskin with the wool fleece left intact, has long served as a natural insulator in cold-weather garments, while bomber jackets originated as heavy flight wear for military pilots.

The winter outerwear guide follows a separate report earlier in November, when the publication also identified the season's most sought-after coat silhouette for autumn and winter dressing.
