Jimmy Kimmel teases Oscars, says infamous slap will be called and vows to ‘stand firm’ unlike Emmy’s stunt.

Jimmy Kimmel is hosting the 95th Academy Awards in 2023 and teasing the issues he will have to cover while ruling the show.

One subject that inevitably gets ignored is the infamous punch from last year’s show, when Will Smith stood on stage to punch Chris Rock after a prank at the expense of his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

“It has to be raised somehow,” he told Extra in an interview. “You know, I don’t really want to take it lightly because it wasn’t [light] to comedians. You know, comedians love it… It’s one of those things that to a group of people who find everything funny, it’s not funny, you know? But of course… if they read the wrong winner one year when I handed out the Oscars, we had to call it the next year.

Kimmel also promised that he would not lie and stand up for the show. It was reminiscent of the Emmy game he did with co-host Will Arnett, where Kimmel was dragged onstage and left on the floor even as Quinta Brunson accepted her award. Kimmel received a lot of criticism for this stunt, but he seems to have grown from the experience.

‘I will stand. I learned my lesson. I will stand. In fact, I will carry lifts,” he said.

Kimmel is hosting the Oscars for the third time and the gala will take place on Sunday, March 12.
