Candace Cameron Bure opens up about her move from Crown Media Family’s Hallmark Channel to Great American Family and reveals whether holiday movies will feature gay couples.
“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning, purpose and depth,” Bure said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “I knew the people behind Great American Family were Christians who loved the Lord and wanted to promote faith programs and good family entertainment.”
At Great American Family, Bure reunited with her former Hallmark boss, Bill Abbott, who gave her the freedom to produce and create content under the Candace Cameron Bure Presents banner. Neighbors explained that the reason she left Hallmark was because “because of the leadership change, it’s actually a very different network than when I started my career.”
For its part, Hallmark said, “We want all viewers to find themselves in our programming, and everyone is welcome.”
This holiday season, Hallmark is promoting its first holiday film with an LGBTQ+ story, titled The Holiday Sittersomething Great American Family won’t be doing anytime soon, based on what Neighbors said.
“I think Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at its core,” he said Totally said alum.
Abbott, on the other hand, left the door open, adding: “It’s definitely 2022, so we’re aware of the trends. There’s no whiteboard saying ‘Yes, this’ or ‘No, we’re never going here’.” “
Bure said the films she makes for Great American Family “should not be a deterrent to the non-believer or anyone who shares a different faith.”
