“Woke” is back for its highly anticipated second season, and HollywoodLife has received EXCLUSIVE information from Sasheer Zamata and T. Murphy about Ayana and Clovis’ travels this season, Keef’s popularity, and more.
almost 2 years passed wakes up The first season aired, but the wait for the second was well worth it. The show picked up right where we left off on April 8th. Following his arrest, Keef Knight now faces an even brighter spotlight when it comes to his activism. His friends Clovis, Ayana and Gunther are by his side as he enters uncharted territory. HollywoodLife ONLY spoke to Sasheer Zamata And T. Murphy about what to expect.
“Ayana, in Season 1 I feel like she’s more of an awakening guru and helping people on their journey, and now in Season 2 you see more of her journey and more of her analysis of what she’s doing, she really needs it.” said Sasheer HollywoodLife† “You can see that the coating is a little worn. You start to see cracks. You start to unravel it a little bit and you start to get vulnerable and you actually want help.”
As for Clovis, T. Murphy admitted that Clovis’ “femininity” will reach “a new level” now that she’s in shape. “You’ll also have the chance to meet some of Clovis’ long-lost relatives this season,” he said.
As Ayana said, with a bigger platform comes a bigger microscope for Keef. Season 2 explores that there is no surefire way to wake up. It’s about finding the path that’s right for you.

“I think what this show really shows is that there’s no right or wrong way to do it,” Sasheer said. “There are different variations and different ways of being an activist, but we all try. Keef has his own way of trying, and a way that Ayana thinks has worked for him for years, but at one point in the season they disagree and try to figure out: should they collaborate more? “I think it’s an interesting way to analyze the idea of waking up with many different goals,” he said.
