Take me away from doubt (France 2) "Cécile de France and François Damiens were very accomplices in their plays."

ARCHIVE. Cécile de France and François Damiens team up in a touching comedy about fatherhood. The Trusts of Director Carine Tardieu

The story of this man who went in search of his biological father must have been inspired by the testimony of a friend…

Carine Tardieu: I met this man, a Breton, during a lunch with friends in the countryside. He lost his mother at the age of 40, and language slackened in his family. He learned that his father was not his parent. He then paid a private detective firm to track him down. And the most incredible thing was that the detectives mistakenly found him a father who was not his own. I romanticized this story to make a movie.

What made you decide to entrust the main roles to Cécile de France and François Damiens?

François seemed ideal to embody the minesweeper Erwan Gourmelon, who carried a mixture of strength and vulnerability within him, with an emerging “little boy” side. Cécile is a great actress, sensitive, poignant and very professional: a war machine in front of the camera. She was perfect for the role of Anna, a country doctor.

It seems that Cécile de France had an artistic love at first sight for her partner, whom she had never toured with. Approve ?

It was clear from the tests that I noticed that they were instinctively connected with a beautiful complicity. In fact, they communicated around what I call “Belgitude”: a certain sense of humor, giggles between scenes, and genuine benevolence towards each other. It’s simple: they acted like brothers!

François Damiens rightly said: “Both Belgians, we have the impression that we have known each other forever. » Was this felt on the set?

Yes, they were very accomplices in their games. On set, a beautiful thing happened: François, the actor from the hidden camera, has a hard time mastering the written dialogues. He likes to improvise, he’s crazy. The opposite of Cécile, very focused and comfortable with texts helped her settle in. She framed it with great love, like an older sister.

Cécile says of you: “Carine is a generous director who does people a favor because she knows how to approach serious subjects with lightness. “Does this affect you?

Yes very. It sums up the spirit of my comedy, which is to tackle a serious subject, a family secret, with humor, but also with humility and generosity.

You shot on the most beautiful shores of the Gulf of Morbihan (Larmor-Baden, Ile de la Jument). Isn’t your movie a declaration of love for Brittany?

Sure. The two-month shoot in Morbihan Bay was an opportunity to explore the magnificent landscapes. As for the Bretons, they are wonderful people, sometimes crude but with a very big heart…
