It’s been more than four years since HBO’s second season Big Little Lies. During this time, the prospect of a new episode occasionally came up, with the network and core team behind the series being largely noncommittal but leaving the door open. On Friday, star and executive producer Nicole Kidman gave the strongest hint yet that there could be a third season.
“I loved Big Little Liesshe said during a question-and-answer session at the CME Group Tour Championship, adding, “We’re bringing you a third one, FYI.”
The casual comment fueled speculation that a new episode could finally be released. According to sources, no actual talks are currently taking place, but there appears to be an intention to hold further talks Big Little Liars on the go.
That’s clear when you compare Kidman’s comments this week to what she said on the subject nearly four years ago, in January 2023.
“Everyone works. “Hopefully one day we can collide again,” she said at the time.
Her opinion was confirmed by HBO boss Casey Bloys at the time. “I think the thing with Big Little Lies is that there is a group of people who all really enjoy working together, but are clearly some of the most famous people working in the entertainment industry. Reese [Witherspoon]Nicole, Zoe [Kravitz]Laura [Dern], everyone is so busy. It would be great to get the group back together at some point, but right now everyone is so busy and there’s no sense of where we’re all going, “it makes perfect sense.” I think it’s more like ‘one day,’” he told Deadline.
Big Little Lies Executive producer Bruna Papandrea hinted earlier this year that the team might revisit the series, the second season of which ended on a cliffhanger with the main characters going to jail.
“I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately,” Papandrea told Deadline. “I really think a lot of people feel the same way I do, which is that at some point they have to find a way to move on.”
She talked about the sudden death of 2021 Big Little Lies The first season’s executive producer/director Jean-Marc Vallée was “a devastating blow” to everyone involved, leaving “a huge hole” and “bringing us all to a standstill,” she said.
Big Little Lies was written and produced by David E. Kelley. The first part is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty.
