ESPN’s Mollie McGrath calls out Fox Sports’ Charissa Thompson for producing sideline reports

Mollie McGrath, ESPN’s college football and basketball sideline reporter, mocked Fox Sports’ recent comments NFL kickoff host Charissa Thompson, who called Thompson’s behavior as a sideline reporter for Fox “neither normal nor ethical.”

In a performance this week at the forgiveness Podcast, Thompson, which also reports pre-, half-time and post-game for Amazon Prime Thursday night footballcame back last year when she admitted that she sometimes completely made up reports.

“I’ve said it before, so I’m not fired for saying it, but I’ll say it again,” Thompson said. “Sometimes I wrote a report because A.) the coach wouldn’t come at halftime or it would be too late and … I didn’t want to ruin the report, so I was like, ‘This is me.’ I’ll just make it up.’

Thompson then explained her reasoning.

“First of all, no coach gets mad when I say, ‘Hey, we’ve got to stop hurting ourselves, we’ve got to be better on third downs, we’ve got to stop turning the ball over.’ ‘. . and better get off the field.’ For example, you won’t correct me on that.”

Today, McGrath responded: “Young reporters: This is not normal or ethical. Coaches and players trust us with confidential information, and if they know you are dishonest and don’t take your role seriously, you will lose all trust and credibility.”
