Russell Crowe is fed up with the flood of questions he gets about the sequel. Gladiator.
The actor, who won an Oscar for his role as Maximus in the 2000 original film, recently announced that he wanted to be written about Maximus’ story at the press conference he held at the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. gladiator 2 in the future – or at least properly compensated.
“They should pay me for the amount of questions I’m asked about this damn movie that I’m not even acting”declared. “I don’t know anything about the actors. I don’t know anything about the subject.”
It makes sense for Russell Crowe not to be in the upcoming project because – spoiler alert – his character dies at the end of the first movie. “In this world, I’m dead, six feet under“Did he declare?”And that’s all”.
If Russell Crowe isn’t involved in the sequel, the director is 100% behind Ridley Scott. If he “decided to do a second part” it was because he had “very good reasons”.. Added : “I can’t imagine this movie being anything less than absolutely gorgeous.”
Nominated for 12 Oscars in 2001, Gladiator grossed over $460 million at the international box office and received 5 statuettes.
Russell Crowe is not against the idea of working with Ridley Scott again in the future. “We haven’t made a movie together in a while. It’s not on purpose, that’s how it all happened.”says the actor. “But we’ve made five movies together. I’ve said this many times over the years, but for an actor like me, there’s no better set than Ridley Scott. He has the intelligence to let you fully collaborate with the true and pure soul of an artist”.
Today, a new cast is preparing to land in the arena. gladiator 2. Paul Mescal (Normal People) will play Lucius, son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). The cast will include Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), May Calamawy, Derek Jacobi and Fred Hechinger, alongside the now-important Pedro Pascal.
Gladiator 2 will hit theaters on November 22, 2024.
