More than 1,500 people were arrested during an environmental demonstration in the Netherlands this Saturday. Among them is an actress from the famous television series Game of Thrones: Carice van Houten.
The 46-year-old actress was part of a group of activists that shut down the Utrechtsebaan section of the A12 motorway in central The Hague to protest the Netherlands’ fossil fuel subsidies.
The police, who dispersed the activists with water cannon, announced on Twitter that they had made the arrests in the afternoon. Carice van Houten, who had previously stated on her Instagram account that she was at the scene, “was put on one of the buses held to evacuate the detainees,” Dutch news agency ANP reported.
In a video she shared on the social network, we see the actress, who plays the character of Melisandre in the “Game of Thrones” series, dressed in a red poncho and soaked with pressurized water.

This was the seventh action organized by the Extinction Rebellion movement in this part of The Hague in recent months. Several Dutch celebrities participated in these actions.
According to Extinction Rebellion, 7,000 people gathered to join the protest.
Some, anticipating the water polo, wore swimsuits or umbrellas and protested by waving placards and banners on the A12 motorway.
This is the seventh show held by Extinction Rebellion on the same section of the highway in The Hague, close to the parliament and main ministry buildings.
