After 33 episodes, the singular Wagner lover and big beer drinker Sergeant Morse hangs up. France 3 publishes the latest unpublished research.

Three last little turns and then it fades away… After nine seasons of good and faithful service, Sergeant Morse, played by British comedian Shaun Evans, bows and is about to leave the stage. Definitely. This last season consists of three episodes in total and France 3 has decided to air them one by one to keep the fun lasting. In tonight’s episode called The Prelude, it all begins with the discovery of the body of a young martyr, the day after a series of concerts by the city orchestra in the spring of 1972. Later, a second victim is found… crucified. Enough to pique the interest of Morse and the police team at Castle Gate station. And even more so when it comes to a third body in an abandoned warehouse. “A story becomes a whole, and once it’s been told, there’s no need to go back,” explains Shaun Evans. It was time to put an end to this and avoid repeating itself. We have to do things well for the public and also let them know when to stop.

A FIT ON THE SKIN

Shaun Evans dressed as Endeavor Morse in 2012. Passionate about opera and puzzles, he says about his character, who has become more and more lonely as the years go by, haunted by a painful family and emotional past: “Morse still has the hunger that drives him, the desire to go all the way, but his loneliness, this difficulty in connecting with others, so I wandered. In season 8, which has already been reduced to three episodes, series creator and screenwriter Russell Lewis didn’t hesitate to push the line. He’s already a fan of amber and spirits, a feature that appears a lot in Colin Dexter’s novels. At the beginning of the series, Morse was dragged down a bad slope, to the point of being embarrassed and uncomfortable in his dealings with those around him. Even his job was affected, and not in a good way.

Such was his situation in one of the episodes – dead drunk on the bus – his colleague Fred Thursday (played by Roger Allam) asked him to leave his post for a while to rest and recuperate. “Alcohol is a good servant, but a bad master,” she told him. You are young. You’re smart Get rid of this bad drinking habit before it ruins you and it’s too late. “Will this season 9 see Morse escape his addictions and demons? In Great Britain, when the last episode aired on ITV last March, several million loyalists had to bid farewell to Morse. Some must have had one last beer up in front of their screens.
